Sometimes (rarely) our cat seems to enjoy posing for the camera. This was taken a few years back on an old Kodak compact camera. Still came out quite nicely.
An aerial view of the foothill of the alps, the region of my hometown. Taken with the DJI Phantom 2 Vision+.
A heron enjoying a sunny evening in Regent's Park in London.
Towards the Sunset
A boat on the way towards the sunset. Taken from Dubai's 360, a circular nightclub on the breakwater of the harbour of Jumeirah Beach Hotel.
Check me Out
This chick was a bit off track, but made for a good photo opportunity.
Found these guys in the EPCOT section of Disneyland Orlando.
Going for a Swim
The fjords are great for snorkelling - although we did encounter some jellyfish...
In the towers of Khasab Castles, a number of parrots were breeding. I was able to capture this shot through one of the old firing holes in the tower.
In the Water
Sometimes it can be hard to keep your head above the waterline. Or your tail.
This little guy was posing on a cut tree trunk in Cornell's gardens.
The Niagara falls on the boarder of the US and Canada. While it was great to see this force of nature, it's by far not as impressive as the Victoria falls for instance.
Waterfall on the Finger Lakes
A waterfall we encountered during a drive along the Finger Lakes, upstate New York.
A beautiful tree at the shores of Cayuga Lake on a clear early spring day. The area around the Finger Lakes in the north of New York is full of beautiful landscapes. Looking back, I do miss it at times.
This shot was taken in Ithaca, upstate New York during my time at Cornell University. Early May was the time when spring slowly arrived in the the area and nature finally came to life after a horrible winter. I took this shot with the 50-200 lens in order to achieve the Bokeh effect from the light in the background. Editing just involved some slight contrast and exposure corrections.
Tree in the Sun
I took this photo on a trip around the gorges in Ithaca, where I attended Cornell University - beautiful nature! This was one of the very few beautiful days we had during the entire period I have been there, from January to May. I like the diagonal flow of the shot.
I Did Know the Names of These
Anyone remember? Seen on the Campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. I do miss it sometimes.
A crab moving along the beach on the Seychelles.
The Aldabra giant tortoise (I believe) - the largest population of which lives in the Seychelles.
Tortoises Have the Right of Way
I found this somewhat amusing sign at the St. Anne Island National Park in the Seychelles, fairly close to the main island with the capital Victora. There are several hundreds Giant Tortoises roaming this island that you can observe; these animals are close to extinction - in fact they were thought to have disappeared in the 1900s. Nowadays they can only be found in this region.
The Saint Anne Hotel
The Saint Anne Beachcomber hotel in the Seychelles, located on a private island just off the coast of the main island.
A lizard sits on a pillar of the house we stayed in on the Seychelles.
Boat on the Horizon
Taken on the Seychelles.
I See You
We encountered a group of Hippos on the Zambesi river. This guy was clearly eyeing us.
This Hippo family was enjoying the sun in the mighty Zambesi River in Zambia. They tend to look adorable and lazy, but Hippos are among the most dangerous animals in Africa. They can run faster than humans!
The Mighty Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls, or Mosi-oa-Tunya, are the largest water falls in the world, directly on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. Definitely one of the most impressive landscapes I have ever seen, especially from a helicopter. Worth a visit, much more so than the Niagara falls.
Rainbow Over the Victoria Falls
Rainbows occur over the Victoria Falls on an almost daily basis. This photo is from the Zambia side.
This was on the coast of South Africa, somewhere along the garden route. Can't recall the exact location right now - but the coastal area in general is absolutely beautiful. I really like the color palette in this shot.
The Milky Way (Try 1)
This was my first ever star photograph, taken in South Africa on the coast. An amazing spot to observe the sky. I'd really like to have another opportunity to do this. So much room to improve and learn.
I had the chance to photograph a Cheetah this year in South Africa. The opportunity came up when the animal was glancing at my camera between the thick bushes of the area, resulting in this shot.
It's a Lonely World
Taken at Boulder's Beach in South Africa, near Cape Town, home to a colony of the threatened African Penguins. This area is actually in the middle of a residential zone, which results in signs on the roads telling you to watch out for Penguins. They still seem to like it there. This guy was wandering around a bit far from the group - also note the beautiful clouds, which seem to be omnipresent in this area. Perfect for photography. Excuse the EXIF data - not actually correct, but can't be bothered to correct it now.
Towards the Sunshine
Taken in Cape Town, South Africa. Very nice city for photography, great scenery and amazing clouds (at least during the few days I visited).
The King of Animals
I had the opportunity to capture this shot in a constant hunt for a great scene in the perfect light at the Sabi Sands Game Reserve in South Africa. This one was taken early morning on a bright sunny day. The rather old male lion (you can see he isn't the youngest anymore by looking at the disappearing mane) was taking a stroll and we followed him for a quite a while. It was also amazing to hear him roar.
My Favourite Cat
...except my own one probably. I love Leopards - so elegant, efficient, independent, yet with an interesting social life.
Owl in the Trees
Spotted this owl during a drive during the Sabi Sands Game Reserve, part of the Kruger National Park in South Africa. The shot was taken with the 50-200m 2.8-3.5 and a 1.4 extension.
Can anyone identify what species this is?
A photo I snapped while on a break during a game drive in the Sabi Sands game reserve, using a torch.
Found in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve in South Africa, just bordering the Kruger National Park.
On our last game drive at Sabi Sands game reserve, we encountered a lion kill. A group of lions was able to kill a buffalo - this one was just enjoying the fruits (or meat?) if the hard work.
I took this shot in South Africa in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve. At first I was unsure what to do with it, the original looked fairly bright, although the day was cloudy and it was early morning. When I played with the colors a bit, I realized a slight monochrome filter and some contrast would result in an interesting darker atmosphere.
A red moon during the lunar eclipse in 2011.
Flying over the Maldives - really would like to be back there for a week ... or five.
It's Time Again
... for two things: To post again, which I have not done for a while. And to go on holiday, which is in the early planning stages. This was taken at Reethi Rah Island in the beautiful Maldives.
On the Water's Edge
This is on the beautiful island of Reethi Rah in the Maldives - perfect place to simple let your mind wander. I think it's time for another island holiday soon.
House in Paradise
This beautiful water villa awaits you on the island of One & Only Reethi Rah Resort in the Maldives - definitely a place for a relaxing holiday.
Thought this was a suitable image for Earth Day. Taken in the North Male Atoll near Reethi Rah in the Maldives. This is from a 5m x 20m sandbank in the middle of the ocean - there is literally nothing else to see than the little island you are standing on - and then the storm came. 20 minutes and it was over again.
Taken somewhere in Zurich with the Zuiko 50-200 2.5-3.5. Loved that lense, so sharp.
Had the chance to grab a shot of this little fellow on Nosy Be Island just off the coast of Madagascar.
A beautiful old lighthouse on top of an island in Madagascar. I believe this was on Nosy Tanikely, which is also home to an amazing bat population.
Took this shot in Madagascar - wish I could have been there at full moon though. An album with more shots from this amazing island is on my Facebook (public).
Spotted this boat on the coast of Nosy Be Island in Madagascar. It was used by locals to go fishing during the early morning and late afternoon hours.
Boat on the Shores
This wooden boat (I can't recall what you call this type of boat right now, anybody?) had seen better days - regardless two men came just a few minutes after I took this shot to drag it out to the sea. The local population of Nosy Be Island in Madagascar use these boats daily to catch fish. Due to the strong contrasts I felt a black and white version would work quite nicely.
In The Sunshine
Took this shot on Nosy Bé Island just off Madagascar.
Playing in the Sunset
Got this photo on the beaches of Madagascar - took a lot of running left and right to catch up with them.
There's a Drop on my Head
This photo was taken in a national park on the island of Nosy Be just off the coast of Madagascar. The weather was fluctuating quite a bit during our visit in August, so rain and sunny periods switched quickly. This chameleon still hadn't shaken off all the raindrops.
The Ring-Tailored Lemur
These primates are endemic to the island of Madagascar, and I found this guy on Nosy Bé Island. Nowadays of course, they are part of popular culture due to the famous Pixar movies named after the country they inhabit.
Behind the Tree
This is a 5 image HDR I took on Nosy Be island just off the coast of Madagascar. The scene is also featured in my short timelapse sequence.
Doesn't this remind you of the Jungle Book? Captured in Madagascar while driving on Nosy Be Island.
The Seven Sisters
The Seven Sisters is a serious of chalk cliffs in Sussex, which we walking along for a day in 2014.
Taken in the zoo in Munich, this monkey (do you know the exact species?) was posing for the camera.
The famous monument in Britain, construction of which is said to have started 5000 years ago.
Landing on Water
This pelican was just about to land in the water - I can't recall if it managed to catch a fish.
This is how you call the caves in Mexico, filled with water from the underground. The cave is actually much much darker with only a few lights. It's the long exposure bringing out all the colours and detail. Beautiful scenery.
Walk Through the Forest
A path through the beautiful resort of Mayakoba in Mexico. Well worth a visit.
These bats were hanging in the Cenote in Mayakoba, Mexico. Every night they fly out to hunt.
Spotted near the Maya site of Tulum in Mexico.
Head In the Sand
Maybe this little guy had a frustrating day.
Posing in the Sun
This female Iguana was sitting in the sun in the Mayakoba Resort, Mexico.
We spotted this very small crocodile in the canals of the Mayakoba Resort in Mexico.
The turtles were sunbathing.
Kuala Lumpur has some beautiful parks in the city - here is one of them.
Encountered this follow on the streets of Kuala Lumpur
What Ya Looking At
This guy was climbing up a small hill when he spotted the camera (and myself).
Sitting on Top
This dragonfly took a rest and gave me a good opportunity for a macro shot.
We also visited a Butterfly Park in Kuala Lumpur - here is one of my best shots.
