Part of the beauty of photography lies in capturing a single special moment that will likely never appear the same way again. While this is what makes each photograph unique, normal photo alone can typically only freeze a fleeting split second. In trying to expand what I can record with my camera, in 2011 I shot my first timelapse video, looking to capture the transition between different hours of the day and night, from dusk to dawn and reversely.

But what if you could capture the same in a single photo? This is the question I asked myself in early 2020. After some research I found that others have had begun similar endeavors over the past years, and I thank those pioneers for the inspiration they’ve provided to me as I started to embark on this project.

The photos in this series are the outcome of many hours of scouting locations, shooting, editing, re-shooting and re-editing. They intend to let the viewer’s eye wander through the changes in scenery as day and night flow into each other, using digital blending techniques to combine photos of different times of the day into a single continuous transition that is not normally obvious to the observer, and thus showcasing Dubai’s landscape and skyline in a new way.

The use of wide panoramic formats for many of the works further emphasizes the transition from day to night across the scenery, while typical portrait and landscape ratios are used when suitable to the composition. Two of the works were submitted to the renowned 2020 Epson International Panorama Awards, and received Silver and Bronze accolades respectively. In April 2021, Timeblend Dubai was the launch exhibition for Jumeirah’s Zabeel House The Greens new initiative Project Art, and received coverage by Gulf Today, The National, WhatsOn, Hotelier Middle East, Petapixel, CNN, Arte8Lusso and many others. All images are available as limited edition prints, printed and framed using a museum grade mat and white wooden framing on glass, and come signed with a certificate.
